Celebrating Excellence in Education
The awards recognized 45 school teachers and 21 higher education faculty members who demonstrated innovation, dedication, and impact in teaching. Among the awardees was Shri Karma Tempo Ethenpa, principal of a senior secondary school in Sikkim, who was praised for leadership and holistic student development.
President Murmu highlighted the importance of teachers in nurturing character, capability, and values in students. Drawing from her own teaching experience, she emphasized that education is essential for dignity and security, with the biggest reward for teachers being the lasting success of their students.
Smart Teachers for a Modern India
During her address, the President underscored the critical role of “smart teachers” who use affection, sensitivity, and intellect to make learning effective and meaningful. She acknowledged the advances in educational technology, such as smart classrooms and digital tools, but stressed that the emotional and intellectual coordination provided by teachers is irreplaceable.
The President also pointed to initiatives under NEP 2020, aimed at fostering inclusive education, with special focus on girls’ education and support for underprivileged communities, criticial to India’s vision of a knowledge superpower.
National Impact and Future Outlook
Teachers honored hailed from diverse backgrounds, embodying India’s educational aspirations. The ceremony called upon educators and institutions to actively promote school, higher, and skill education as pillars for national progress. The President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded teachers as pivotal nation-builders and champions of social change.
